Mary Agnes Mcguire

February 21, 1922 — March 15, 2010

Mary Agnes McGuire, 88, of Dennison, O., passed away on Monday, March 15, 2010 at Amberwood Manor in New Philadelphia, O., after a period of declining health.

Born February 21, 1922 at the home in Dennison where she resided her entire life, she was a daughter of the late Peter B. and Teresa (Ford) McGuire. Her father had immigrated from Ireland as a young man, and Mary Agnes was always proud of her Irish heritage.

Mary Agnes was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in the class of 1940 and a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church and its Altar Society. She was very active in the life of her parish for many years and had been the first to volunteer when weekly bingo nights were started.

After high school, she was employed by Clark’s Provision for twenty-six years in their office. She later worked at City Auto for eight years and at the Lanning Department Store for a number of years until her retirement in 1984. In her spare time, she enjoyed working in her yard and was an avid reader. She especially enjoyed corresponding with her many friends around the country, faithfully sending cards for every occasion and delighting in the cards she received in return. She also loved going out to eat with her friends who live closer.

In addition to her parents, Mary Agnes was preceded in death by her sister, Teresa Marie McGuire, and her stepmother, Ellen Mary McGuire. She is survived by several cousins, including Teresa Pawliw of Ontario, Canada and Rev. Vincent Ford of Capetown, South Africa, as well as many dear friends and neighbors.

Services for Mary Agnes, officiated by Father Anthony Lonzo, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 18, in Immaculate Conception Church at Dennison. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison. Visitation will be on Thursday morning from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison with the funeral procession leaving for the church shortly thereafter.

Those wishing to honor Mary Agnes’ memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Immaculate Conception Church Memorial Book Fund or Cemetery Fund.
