Marilyn Jane Wilson

October 2, 1939 — December 26, 2018

Marilyn Jane McCarroll Wilson, 79, of Dennison, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at Claymont Healthcare in Uhrichsville, after a period of declining health. Born October 2, 1939 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Emmet Fred “E.F.” and Mary Isabel (West) McCarroll.

A 1957 graduate of Dennison High School and 1961 graduate of Ohio University – earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, Marilyn followed in her father’s footsteps as a teacher and administrator. She had a long career with schools in Martins Ferry, Ohio, Saginaw, Michigan and Decatur, Alabama. She retired in 1998 as the director of the Central United Methodist Weekday School in Decatur. After retiring, she was an active volunteer with Reach to Recovery where she counseled breast cancer survivors, as a tutor for Even Start in Decatur – a program for underprivileged preschool children, and at the Twin City Christian Service Center’s food bank. She was a member of O.E.S. Chapter 412 and White Shrine of Jerusalem in Decatur, AL, Daughters of the Nile in Saginaw, MI, and the Quest Club, Sorosis Club, Homemakers Club and Dennison Alumni Association locally, after moving back to Dennison in 2001 when her husband retired from Delphi Automotive. Marilyn was very proud of the fact that she headed a committee to have the old Dennison High School (now Claymont Middle School) named a National Historic place. She was a faithful member of Uhrichsville First United Methodist Church.

On June 10, 1961, she married Gerald E. Wilson who survives her along with their son, Steven (Linda) Wilson of Roswell, Georgia; son-in-law, Martin (Pauline) Versluis of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren, Gary Versluis of Columbus, Ohio and Samuel and Evan Wilson; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Versluis, and sister, Martha Jean McCarroll Clark.

A memorial service and celebration of Marilyn’s life, officiated by Pastor Shaun Green and Rev. John Clark, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4, at Uhrichsville First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will be in Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the E. F. McCarroll Scholarship Fund through the Dennison Alumni Association or the charity of the donor’s choice.
