Margaret A. Eckenrode

Margaret A. Eckenrode, 73, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, died Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital in Canton, Ohio, following a battle with cancer. Born September 27, 1953 in Dennison, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Laura Marie (née Northam) and George Baker and the late Alden Ronald Ayers.

Affectionately known as Marge or Margie to all who loved her, she was never afraid to tell you exactly what she thought. She will be remembered as an avid Steelers fan and lover of all animals, especially cats. Margie was always willing to help those in need in any way she could.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, Thomas J. Eckenrode. Together they traveled the world and raised their family to be honest and hardworking – still holding hands after 51 years.

She is also survived by their children, Amanda (Rocky) Slagle, Mary (Jim) Eckenrode-Moeller, and Thomas (Christina) Eckenrode. Margie loved her children, but held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren, Gabby, Hannah, Jenna, Josh, Logan, and Samantha; and great-grandchildren, Gavin, Kanan, Kaylie, Lance, Maxwell, and Sydney. She is also survived by her sisters, Esther McCauley, Judy Glazer, and Lila Alaniz, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Victoria Reichman.

Father Jeff Coning will celebrate the funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison, Ohio on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a graveside service at St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison. No visitation is planned. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to your local Humane Society.
