Maj. Mike C. Kasco, AF Ret., 92, of Dennison, O., passed away at his home after a long full life on Thursday, March 19, 2009.
Born October 6, 1916 in Newport, O., he was a son of the late William Kasco and Rosa (Jessic) Saunders-Roijce-Kasco-Rypian.
Mike proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and Air Force from 1932 to 1956. He was stationed in Hawaii for six years in the time leading up to World War II and loved the travel that came with his service. From the jungles of Panama to Japan to coordinating the deployment of troops to Korea during the Korean War, Mike enjoyed seeing the world while serving his nation. During his service, he was a graduate of Officers Candidate School and received numerous decorations.
On September 8, 1940 he married the former Mabel Irene Rentsch with whom he enjoyed nearly forty years of marriage until her passing on June 20, 1980. They are survived by a son, Michael C. Kasco, Jr. of Dennison; two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Judith A.) Edie of Vacaville, Calif. and Cheryl S. Sproat, widowed, of Gilroy, Calif.; twelve grandchildren, Michael, Patricia, Kevin, Angela, Dakota, Julie, Tara, Jason, Clint, Kenneth, Chantal and Joseph; twelve great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.
Mike is also survived by a sister, Sophia “Sally” Burroway of North Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mike was preceded in death by a grandson, Mique; three great great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Michael Sproat; seven brothers, John Saunders, Sam Rojice, Steve Kasco, and Carl, Frank, Vince and Louie Rypian; three sisters, Ann Saunders, Mary Keesey and Alexandria “Betty” Kasco; and four siblings who died in childhood.
Services for Mike, officiated by Pastor Rod Phillips, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 23, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. Those wishing to honor Mike’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the charity of their choice.
