Louis N. Menapace

Louis N. Menapace, 99, of Dennison, O., passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Hennis Care Center of Bolivar, O., after a period of declining health.

Born January 27, 1911 in Stillwater, O., he was a son of the late Remigio and Luigia (Odorizei) Menapace.

A lifelong resident of the area, Louis retired from Penn Central Railroad in 1976 after nearly fifty-years of employment. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he was an avid gardener who drew great pleasure from sharing his homegrown vegetables with friends and neighbors until his recent health problems prevented him. He was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison.

On August 23, 1932, Louis married the former Adeline DeCottis with whom he enjoyed seventy-four years of marriage until her passing on July 16, 2006. They are survived by a son, James Menapace and his wife, Eleanor, of Dennison; a daughter, Janice Hughes and her husband, Richard, of Bolivar; six grandchildren: Michael Hughes and his wife, Vikki, of Temple, Tx., Lisa Hughes of Phoenix, Ariz., Steven Hughes and his wife, Shannon, of Indianapolis, Ind., Cheryl Walker and her husband, Terry, of Strasburg, Bill Menapace and his wife, Carolyn, of New Philadelphia, and Karen Distefano and her husband, Sam, of Columbus; ten great grandchildren: Sean, Sierra and Hayden Hughes, Christopher Roesner, Jace and Dylan Walker, Charlotte Menapace, and Peyton, Alison and Anna Marie Distefano; and many nieces and nephews.

The last of his generation, Louis was preceded in death by six sisters: Mary DeMattio, Rose Sikora, Della Alexander, Emma Mastri, Louise Brogne, and Margaret Louise Menapace, in addition to his wife and parents.

Services for Louis, officiated by Father Anthony Lonzo, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, in Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison.

Family and friends are invited to call at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., during which time a Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:45 p.m.

Those wishing to honor Louis’ memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Immaculate Conception Church’s Cemetery Fund, 206 N. 1st St., Dennison, OH 44621 and Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. 3rd St., Dover, OH 44622 in lieu of flowers.
