Lois M. Ames-Edwards-Marstrell

Lois Mae Ames-Edwards-Marstrell, 94, of New Philadelphia, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at New Dawn Retirement Community in Dover, after a period of declining health. Born May 10, 1921 in New Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Clancy Ulysses and Bessie Pearl (Kinsey) Ames.

A lifelong resident of the area, Lois attended Gnadenhutten High School. In 1937, she married the Rev. Philip Edwards and began her life as loving wife, mother and homemaker. She was a faithful member of the Church of the Nazarene, as well as the Akron District Missionary Society, who taught Sunday School for over 50 years. After Rev. Edwards passing in 1971, Lois was married to Donald Marstrell in 1983, enjoying nearly 16 years of marriage until his passing in 1999. She was also preceded in death a brother, Perry Ames; sister, Ruth Johnson; son-in-law, Carl McGuire; and grandson, Roy Reppart.

Lois is survived by daughters, Joy McGuire, Kay (Larry) Gibbs, and Patty (John) Reppart; stepdaughter, Sue Ann (Burt) Cable; grandchildren, Carl “Hoss” (Tammy), Crystal (Keene II), Craig (Michelle), Curt (Holly), Douglas (Robin), Gregory (Jennifer), Tonya (Bill), and JT (Tricia); granddaughter-in-law, Kelly; stepgrandchildren, Jennifer (Brent), Jessica, and Keith; great-grandchildren, Carl III, Charm, Keene III, Kiani, Machi, Maleah, Mathea, Makana, Caden, Connor, Rachel, Morgan, Ethan, Mackenzie, Liam, Brianna, Danny, Jackson, Grant, and Harrison; step-great-grandchildren, Rachel (Kyle), Carter, Landyn, Jackson, Keeley, Kristen, Kimberly, Leslie, and Cheyenne; step-great-great-grandchildren, Jily, Zoey, and Graham; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Lois’ wishes, a private family service is planned. Interment will be in Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice.
