Lloyd M. Rose, 96, of Buffalo, New York, formerly of Dennison, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, following a brief period of declining health. Born September 14, 1922 in Harrison County, Ohio, he was a son of the late Ernest Dwight Rose and Freda “Florence” Gatchell West Rose.
Lloyd was a 1940 graduate of Dennison High School, having been the President of the Christian Endeavor Society at the former Feedspring Presbyterian Church in his youth. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. During his time stationed in Rhineland, Northern France and Central Europe with the 217 th Field Artillery Battalion, he earned several decorations, including the EAME Theater Ribbon with Three Bronze Service Stars.
Upon returning home from the war, he began his long career with Republic Steel. He was a blast furnace supervisor at their Massillon and Canton facilities before being transferred to their Buffalo location in 1963 where he retired as the blast furnace general foreman in the early 80s. While living in Buffalo, he was a member of South Park United Presbyterian Church.
On August 4, 1945, Lloyd married the former Jane Ashbaugh with whom he enjoyed over 67 years of loving marriage until her passing on June 30, 2013. They are survived by their son, David E. Rose and his wife, Mary, of Buffalo; granddaughter, Morgan Charlene Rose; sister, Louise Hoover; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, William Hoover, as well as an infant sister and infant brother.
Services, officiated by Pastor Michael C. Travis, will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow beside his beloved wife in Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
