Lester Eugene Roth, 95, of Uhrichsville, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016, in the compassionate care of Hennis Care Centre in Bolivar. Born November 2, 1920 in Maple Grove near Uhrichsville, he was the son of the late Earl Eugene and Gertrude (McBride) Roth. He leaves behind a son, Wayne E. Roth (wife Patty), grandson, David P. Roth (wife Larisa) and two great granddaughters, Alexandra and Abigail. He will be sadly missed by his special friend and companion of the last 14 years, Violet Green of Uhrichsville (100 years old) with whom he found love in the last chapter of his life. He was preceded in death by his first love, Margaret (McCullough) Roth, who passed away in 1997, just short of 50 years of marriage.
He joined the Navy at 17, after graduation from Uhrichsville High School, and was a Pearl Harbor survivor, serving on the Detroit during the attack. He served for 7 years and often said “he had been all over the world”. Returning home, Lester became known as a fine appliance repair man, working many years for Spring Electric and others.
He was a life member of the First Methodist Church of Uhrichsville and Uhrichsville held a special place in his heart. The last intelligible word he said was “Uhrichsville”. Many may also remember him as an excellent dancer and he continued dancing well into his later years.
According to his wishes he has been cremated with no services. Alzheimer's took away a good man, a “character”, and one of the last of the Greatest Generation. Those wishing to make a donation may choose the Alzheimer's Association to rid us of this cruel disease.
