Leonard Vincent DeMattio, Jr., 51, of Dennison, passed away at his home on Monday, November 12, 2012 after a lengthy illness. Born December 18, 1960 in Dennison, he was the son of Leonard V. DeMattio, Sr. of Hendersonville, North Carolina and Shirley J. (Leach) DeMattio of Jewett, Ohio.
After his graduation from Claymont High School in 1979, Leonard proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1983 to 1990, earning a number of decorations. Upon returning home, he began his lifelong career with Gradall Co. in New Philadelphia. In 2006, he earned his Associates Degree in business management from Kent State University, Tuscarawas Branch. Leonard enjoyed playing baseball and softball, starting from his high school days and continuing throughout his life until his illness prevented him this year. He also loved to golf, was an avid fan of Notre Dame’s sports teams and enjoyed fishing. He drew great joy from spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Leonard is survived by a daughter, Rachel DeMattio of Uhrichsville; a son, Leonard V. DeMattio, III of Dover; an expected granddaughter, AnnaLela Diane DeMattio; sisters, Lorie A. (David) Rogers of Dennison and Dalyn D. (Brent) O’Connor of Gnadenhutten; nieces, Keeley and Ashley Rogers; and nephews, Kyle, Brennon, Keiron and Brogan O’Connor. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Diane DeMattio.
A graveside service, officiated by Father Jeff Coning, with a military committal will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, in Calvary Cemetery in New Philadelphia. Family and friends are invited to call at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
