Lena E. Mahaffey

Lena E. Mahaffey, 86, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away at her home on Saturday, July 9, 2011 after a lengthy illness. Born May 8, 1925 in Uhrichsville, she was a daughter of the late Constanta and Mary (Denart) Vesco.

On September 3, 1948, Lena married Sidney Jr. “Dave” Mahaffey who preceded her in death on October 20, 1976. They are survived by four children, Mrs. Rick (Christine) Moore of Canton, Mrs. Mark (Carol) Momchilov of Wooster, David Mahaffey and his wife, Cindy, of Stone Creek, and Mrs. Bud (Sara) Flowers of Uhrichsville; six grandchildren, Steven and Brian Moore, Conan Momchilov and his wife, Jenny, Cory Momchilov, and Samantha and Michael Mahaffey; and a great grandchild, Cambri. Lena is also survived by her brother, Louis Vesco and his wife, Vivian, of Westerville and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Josephine Andreatta, Anna Manini, and Florence Wires.

Lena was a lifelong resident of Uhrichsville, graduating from Uhrichsville H.S. in the class of 1943. Before marrying and starting her family, she worked at Quimby’s Bakery in Uhrichsville for several years. She then devoted her life to her family while her children were young, lovingly caring for her husband, children, and home. After they were grown, she worked for several area businesses including the Tappan Marina, Nichol’s Department Store and, finally, for Family Dollar until she retired in the 90’s. In her spare time, she was an avid bingo player.

Services for Lena, officiated by Rev. Harry Milligan, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow beside her husband in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Community Hospice.
