Lawrence Richard “Corky” Mann, 75, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Union Hospital in Dover, Ohio following a lengthy illness. Born February 28, 1937 in Dover, he was a son of the late Howard Daniel and Helen Alberta (Stewart) Mann.
With the exception of the years he spent in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1957, serving his country during the Korean War, Corky was a lifelong resident of the area. He was an excellent mechanic who loved working on cars and had been employed by a number of area businesses including Weavers in Dover and New Philadelphia, Hart’s Automotive, Nichol’s in Dover where he had been the service manager, and finally Larson Clay until his retirement. He was a member of the Dennison Eagles and loved taking his kids and grandkids fishing until his health prevented him.
On September 8, 1957, he married the former Bonnie J. Fockler who survives him at their home. He will also be sadly missed by their eight children, Lawrence R. (Sandy) Mann, II of Uhrichsville, Jeffery A. (Karen) Mann of Dennison, Michael L. (Kelly) Mann of Uhrichsville, Richard A. (Wendy) Mann of Uhrichsville, Robert E. (Rhonda) Mann of Dennison, Howard M. (Allison) Mann of New Philadelphia, Joseph S. (Tanity) Mann of Uhrichsville, and Patricia J. (Michael) Sensbach of Tuscarawas; nineteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. His surviving siblings include a brother, Daniel (Ginny) Mann of Port Washington; and sisters, Ellen J. “Jane” (Ernest) Quillin of Newcomerstown and Bonnie L. (Wayne) McDaniel of Dennison; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Howard J. “Jim” Mann, and a brother-in-law, Junior Quillin.
Services for Corky, officiated by Pastor Fred J. Battles, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
