Laurence H. “Papa Larry” Boor, 95, of Beverly, MA, formerly of Bowerston, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2009 at Ledgewood Rehabilitation Center in Beverly, MA. Born June 27, 1914 at Bowerston, he was a son of the late D. William and Maude (Ryan) Boor.
A resident of Bowerston and Zanesville most of his life, Larry graduated from Bowerston High School in 1932, then continued his education at Otterbein College where he graduated in 1936, and Cleveland Mortuary College where he graduated in 1937. Following his schooling, Larry served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Larry was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bowerston.
Larry owned and operated the Boor Funeral Home in Bowerston for 34 years. Following his career as a mortician, Larry began a 20-year career as a nursing home administrator. Larry operated both the Sunnyslope Nursing Home at Bowerston and the Sunnyview Nursing Home at Zanesville. During his years in the Bowerston area, Larry had been a Rotarian, a Ruritan, a Past Master of the Orange Lodge F&AM, and a member of the Bowerston Board of Public Affairs. Larry was a painter who loved art and was also an avid golfer.
On December 18, 1976, Larry married Vada Mae (Ridgeway) Boor who preceded him in death on October 29, 1992. On July 23, 1997, Larry married Beatrice K. (Wolfe) Cole Boor, and she survives him at their home in Beverly, MA. Larry is also survived by five stepsons, Mitchell and wife Denise Cole of Sagus, MA, Evan and wife Nancy Cole of Limerick, ME, Dan and wife Kim Cole of West Newbury, MA, and Scott and Greg Rook, both of New Philadelphia; two stepdaughters, Pamela and husband Denis Souers of Canton and Shirley and husband Paul Adkins of Cumberland, VA; and fifteen step grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Vada.
Family and friends of are invited to call at visitation for Larry on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 from 6 pm until 8 pm in the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. A funeral service for Larry, officiated by Pastor William Seymour, will be held Thursday, August 20, 2009 at 11 am in the funeral home. Internment will follow the funeral service at Longview Cemetery at Bowerston. Those wishing to honor Larry’s memory with a memorial donation may do so to either Trinity U.M.C. in Bowerston or the Bowerston Public Library.
