Laura Janice Burdette

Laura Janice Burdette, 84, of Uhrichsville, was called home to the Lord on May 15, 2020, from Pat’s Porch at Hennis Care Centre in Dover, after a period of declining health. Born December 30, 1935 in Uhrichsville, she was the daughter of the late Luella (Vickers) Wires Rexroad and George Wires.

A 1953 graduate of Uhrichsville High School, Laura married James E. Mahaffey on October 20, 1963. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1973. She was a longtime member of the Uhrichsville Church of the Nazarene and a member of the Sorosis Club. In 1999, Laura retired from her position as manager of the Uhrichsville Dairy Mart, having previously been employed by FabOhio.

On June 24, 2000, Laura married Laurell E. Burdette who survives her at their home. She is also survived by her stepson, Calvin (Denise) Burdette; stepbrothers, Gary (Eileen) Wires, Don (Vicky) Wires, and Ronald (Liz) Wires; stepsister, Becky Miller; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Kenny Rexroad, and a dear aunt, Fairy Snedeker.

According to Laura’s wishes, she has been cremated and was interred in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. A memorial service, officiated by Pastor Mike Travis, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, at Uhrichsville Church of the Nazarene. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Uhrichsville Church of the Nazarene, 116 N. Dawson St., Uhrichsville, OH  44683.
