Larry E. Wood

Larry Eugene Wood, 77, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the Ohio’s Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia with his loving family at his side. Born in Dennison, Ohio on June 28, 1948, he was a son of the late Sidney Herbert and Mary Margaret (Hilliker) Wood.

Larry was a 1966 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, then went on to further his education at Ohio University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering. After his college education, he dedicated his working years to Simons in Newcomerstown where he was employed for 38 years. Larry was a member of the New Philadelphia Elks, the New Philadelphia V.F.W. #1445 Aux., and the Dover Eagles. He was an avid fan of racing, and enjoyed spending his free time watching and attending NASCAR and NHRA races.

On June 2, 1972, Larry married the love of his life, Margaret “Peg” (Turney) Wood with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage last month. Larry is also survived by a daughter, Melissa “Missy” (Drew) Harding; son, Bob Bitikofer; grandchildren, Karly (Chase) Eggleston, and Aubrie and Averie Harding; great-grandchildren, Wrenley and Navy Eggleston; sisters- and brother-in-law, Patricia Kauffman, Mary Jane Gibb, and Bonnie and Dennis Sprout; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his two infant brothers.

In keeping with Larry’s wishes, cremation has been planned without a visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations in Larry’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 and Ohio’s Hospice Foundation, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH  44663.
