Larry R. Harper

December 19, 1940 — October 15, 2009

Larry Roll Harper, 68, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at Aultman Hospital in Canton, O., following a sudden illness.

Born December 19, 1940 in Midvale, O., he was a son of the late Roll Albert and Betty Roberta (Huebner) Harper.

A lifelong resident of the area, Larry was a twenty-eight year employee of McKnight Trucking where he had been a diesel mechanic. A true mechanic at heart, he was happiest when he was tinkering in his garage and working on cars.

Larry served his country in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961. After leaving active duty, he was a member of the National Guard and, for many years, kept in touch with the friends he had made in the Guard.

On March 30, 1963, he married the former Dianna Darlene “Dee-Dee” Swaney with whom he enjoyed forty-four years of marriage until her passing on October 21, 2007. They are survived by three daughters, Lori Rankin and her husband, Bruce, of Uhrichsville, Bonnie Phillips and her husband, Mark, of Lafayette, Ind., and Terri Maurer and her companion, Doug Clum, of Dover; a son, Larry “Jason” Harper of Uhrichsville; and grandchildren, McKinsey Maurer, Mikayla Phillips, Maraya Phillips, Alyssa Harper and CJ Clum.

Larry is also survived by a sister, Patricia A. “Pat” Malterer of Dennison; a brother, Richard D. Harper of S. Car.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Larry’s wishes, he has been cremated without a public viewing. However, friends and family may pay respects at the family home throughout the day on Saturday. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Hospice of Tuscarawas County.
