Larry E. McCleary, of Uhrichsville, passed peacefully, on April 22, 2016 in the care of Community Hospice House, following a lengthy illness. Born August 12, 1940 in Guernsey County he was a son of the late Emma Oliver and Clyde McCleary. He graduated from Madison High School.
On August 6, 1961, he married the former Linda Kinsey at the Feed Spring Presbyterian Church. Together they enjoyed over 55 years of marriage. His work career included Larson Clay Pipe, Associated Grocers, Dover Chemical, selling farm machinery, auctioneering, and in his retirement years, measuring for floor installations for his son, Dan. Larry was very active in the community being a former Rush Township Trustee, a Tuscarawas County fair board member, announcer for dairy and beef cattle shows, and was a member of Pleasant Grove UMC. He enjoyed farming and music and his distinct voice and talents were used to call square dances and sing. His love for music brought him to work with many local musicians and he loved the music of the Family Traditions Band, all of whom are members of his family.
Larry is survived by his wife, Linda; sons, Dan (Stephanie) McCleary, Dave (Ann) McCleary; daughter, Leigh (companion, Scott Grove) Maple; he was “Pappy” to his grandchildren, Andrew McCleary, Brianne and Heath Maple, Emily and Kelsey McCleary, and Chelsea and Ciara Grove; great grandson, Carter Daniel McCleary; brother, Floyd (Ruth) McCleary; sister, Sharon (Dale) Ward; sisters-in-law, Kathleen McCleary, Donna Laughlin, Pat (Tom) Wells; brother-in-law, Jon (Kris) Kinsey; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by an infant brother, George McCleary; brother, Harry McCleary; brothers-in-law, Bill Laughlin and Bob McKibben; sister-in-law Ronna McKibben; and nephew, Jeff McCleary.
Larry lived a dedicated life and loved the rural way of living, supporting 4-H activities with his family his entire life.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. A private family service will be held. Interment will be in Deersville’s Union-Patterson Cemetery. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Pleasant Grove Church, Tuscarawas Co. 4-H Committee for the youth and Community Hospice.
