L. Marlene Kennedy, 85, of Dennison, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, in Morgantown, West Virginia, from complications following surgery. Born February 29, 1936 in Uhrichsville, Ohio, she was the last surviving child of the late Samuel Josiah and Mary Anna (Lauver) English.
Marlene was a lifelong area resident and a 1954 graduate of Port Washington High School. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who had also been employed by Groovfold in Newcomerstown for many years. She enjoyed bowling and fishing, and was an avid sports enthusiast who loved to watch ballgames, especially when her Browns and Indians were playing and the WVU Mountaineer basketball team. She also enjoyed socializing at several area clubs with her late husband.
On November 30, 1996, Marlene married Roy D. Kennedy with whom she enjoyed nearly 19 years of marriage until his passing in 2015. She will be deeply missed by her surviving family which includes her daughter, Deb (Rick) Rose of West Lafayette; son, Tim (Sheila) Maple of Cambridge; daughter-in-law, Sheryl Maple of Port Washington; grandchildren, Alishia (Doug) Virostko, Jami (Shawn) Dakin, Ryan Maple, Amanda Maple, Tyson Maple, and Shea (Rachel) Maple; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Doris English; many nieces and nephews; and her special neighbors, Rod and Anna Thralls. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Randy Maple; brothers, Harold English and Sammy English, Jr.; and sisters, Elizabeth Porter and Martha English.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 25, in Port Washington-Salem Union Cemetery in Port Washington where she will be interred beside her late son. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
