L. Kay Russell

Lucinda Kay “Kay” Russell, 67, of New Philadelphia, O., passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2008 in Union Hospital at Dover, O. after a year long battle with cancer.

Born October 28, 1941 in Dennison, O., she was a daughter of the late Ferdinand Sandry and Alice Jean (Allensworth) Sandry Bennett.

Kay grew up in the Twin City area and was a graduate of Uhrichsville High School before moving out of state until 1989. Since returning to Ohio, she had been employed by Cornerstone Support Services. Kay was a very loving, giving person whose greatest passion in life was helping others, so she was a natural for her work at Cornerstone. In addition to her career, she had also been a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker.

Kay’s surviving family includes two sons, Jeffrey Russell of Whitefish, Mont. and John Russell and his wife, Rosemary, of New Philadelphia; a granddaughter, Megan Russell of New Philadelphia; three brothers, Tom Bennett and his wife, Jill, of New Philadelphia, Gary Bennett and his wife, Connie, of Venice, Fla. and Jim Bennett and his wife, Christy, of Venice, Fla.; two sisters, Marla Dieter and Jill Dickens of New Philadelphia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by a son, Ryan Russell, and her stepfather, Ralph Bennett.

Services for Kay, officiated by Rev. Dick Rothrock, will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. A graveside service will be held in Gnadenhutten Clay Union Cemetery at a later date. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Hospice of Tuscarawas County.
