L. Catherine Wood West

L. Catherine Wood West, 92, of Dennison, O., passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Bowerston Pointe near Leesville, O. after a period of declining health.

Born March 8, 1917 at her family home near Sherrodsville, O., she was a daughter of the late Elmer Sylvester and Mary Melinda (Holmes) Smith.

Cate grew up in Carroll County where she attended Dellroy High School until her marriage to Sidney Wade Wood on June 15, 1933. She and Wade enjoyed over forty years of marriage and were blessed with a daughter, Mary C. Dempster and her husband, Jack, of Dennison; two granddaughters, Teresa Moore and her husband, David, of Dennison and Hallie Dempster-Garbrandt and her husband, James, of New Philadelphia; and two great granddaughters, Darcie L. Moore and her husband, Sean Rinehart, of North Miami, Fla. and Kendra L. Moore of Sunrise, Fla. Wade preceded Cate in death on August 19, 1973.

On June 2, 1984, Cate married Kenneth West who passed on May 29, 1986. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Willard K. Smith.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Cate had also been a vital part of the business she owned and operated with her late husband as she and Wade ran Harrison County Auction for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching baseball and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians. She also enjoyed listening to country music, reading, and watching the birds and squirrels around her home. She was a member of Mt. Bethel Community Chapel.

In keeping with Cate’s wishes, a private family service will be held prior to her interment at Tunnel Hill Cemetery near Bowerston.
