Kenneth E. Smith

Kenneth Eugene Smith, 95, of Uhrichsville, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at Claymont Health and Rehabilitation in Uhrichsville, after a brief illness. Born December 9, 1925 in Gnadenhutten, he was a son of the late Homer C. and Ruth B. (Lawver) Smith.

Ken was a World War II veteran, having proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Upon returning home, he began his long career as a clay worker for Larson Clay where he worked until retirement. In his younger years, he enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball for many years.

On August 27, 1947, Ken married the former Barbara Antonia Holzmann with whom he enjoyed nearly 73 years of marriage until her passing on March 23, 2020. They are survived by a daughter, Barb Oberholzer; sons, David E. (companion, Dotti) Smith and Michael A. (Lori) Smith; daughter-in-law, Pam Smith; grandchildren, Hannah Smith, Grant (Jess) Smith, Paige (Cory) Yelverton, Kiersten Young, Ginger Smith and D’Ann Blankenship; and numerous great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Dale W. Smith; son-in-law, Scott Oberholzer; granddaughter, Kailee Smith; and brothers, Glen, Raymond, and Chalmers Smith.

In the interest of public health, a memorial service is planned for a future date when his family and friends may gather safely to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH  44663.
