Kenneth Leroy Morrison, Sr., 97, of Gnadenhutten, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia. Born October 11, 1921, he was a son of the late Ernest Emerson and Nora Mabel (Biggs) Morrison.
A Tuscarawas County resident for most of his life, Ken was a 1940 graduate of Dennison High School before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the European Theatre, earning a Campaign Medal with Two Bronze Stars. Upon his return home from the war, he began his long career in the local clay industry at Belden Brick. In his spare time, he loved gardening and bass fishing.
On February 22, 1946, Ken married the former Wilma Jean Garbrandt with whom he enjoyed over 66 years of marriage until her passing on October 29, 2013. They are survived by a son, Kenneth L. Morrison, Jr.; daughter, Connie (Ted) Quillen; grandchildren, Kenny L. (Melissa) Morrison, III, Shelly (Brian) Burdette and Kelly (Brandon) Milburn; grandson-in-law, Dick Affolter; 8 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Ken was preceded in death by his brothers, Elmer and Lawrence Morrison; an infant sister; granddaughter, Lorie Affolter; daughter-in-law, Diane Morrison; and a great-granddaughter.
In keeping with Ken’s wishes, Pastor Tom Klaserner will officiate a private family graveside service at Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery in Gnadenhutten. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
