Kathleen R. "Cassie" Baker

April 5, 1932 — September 16, 2010

Kathleen Rose “Cassie” Baker, 78, of Dennison, O., passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Akron General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Born April 5, 1932 in Tuscarawas, O., she was a daughter of the late Allen and Alta (Lorenz) Parker.

A lifelong resident of the Tuscarawas Valley, Cassie attended New Philadelphia High School. She went on to be the owner and administrator of Baker’s Veterans Home, a home for disabled veterans, for thirty-five years. She was truly devoted to the men she cared for, calling them “my boys” and treating them like family.

Cassie was a former member of the Dennison Eagles Ladies’ Auxiliary who was also a longtime volunteer at the Twin City Hospital Coffee Bar. She was a loving pet owner, as well, who dearly cherished her three feline companions.

Cassie was married to Garlie R. “Rich” Baker on November 3, 1973. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1978. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Parker; two sisters, Alice Fisher and Agnes Ridgway; and an infant sister.

Her surviving family includes a sister, Betty Grandison of Uhrichsville, as well as many nieces and nephews, and great- and great great-nieces and nephews. Cassie is also survived by a special veteran, Paul Honaker, to whom she provided loving care for many years.

In keeping with Cassie’s wishes, no visitation is planned. A private family graveside service, officiated by Rev. Larry Malterer, will be held in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Those wishing to honor Cassie’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Twin City Hospital Foundation.
