Karen S. (Colvin) Conrad-Hines, 60, of Dennison, Ohio, was suddenly called home to Heaven on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 from Trinity Twin City Hospital in Dennison. Born October 23, 1951 in Dennison, she was a daughter of Peg Abrom of Brightwood and the late Richard Lee “Sonny” Colvin, Sr.
Karen grew up in the Tuscarawas Valley and was a graduate of Indian Valley North High School in the class of 1969. She lived in several communities throughout Tuscarawas and Stark counties over the years, but came home to the Twin City area in the late 90’s. She was a member of Park Christian Church in Dennison and was a caretaker for her dear friend, Jean Watt, also of Dennison. An “ebay enthusiast”, Karen enjoyed collecting buttons and other special items. Her greatest joy came from being with and caring for her family, especially her grandchildren. Karen looked forward to holidays when she would throw herself fully into cooking, baking, and decorating. She will be sadly missed at Thanksgiving, as that was her favorite holiday and something that she and her whole family looked forward to each year.
Karen’s surviving family includes her mother; a son, Doug Conrad and his wife, Johanna, of Navarre; a daughter, Angela Degler and her husband, Rex, of Navarre; grandchildren, Jacob, Jarod and Contessa Conrad, Blake Axe, Colton Axe-Rhodes, and Riley and Mason Degler; brothers, Richard Colvin, Jr. and his wife, Debbie, Steven Colvin and his wife, Laura, and Donald Colvin and his wife, Karen; stepbrother, Jimmy Waltz; stepmother, Janice Colvin; father- and mother-in-law, Walt and Pat Hines; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Douglas F. Conrad in 1997; her second husband, Jeffrey D. Hines who died April 13, 2010; a daughter, Tisha Rae Conrad; and her stepfather, Steve Abrom.
A memorial service and celebration of Karen’s life, officiated by Pastor Scot Caley, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 18, in Park Christian Church at Dennison. Her family will receive callers beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, and a reception in the church’s fellowship hall will immediately follow her service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Park Christian Church.
