Kenneth Eugene “Gene” Warner, 87, of Bowerston, O., passed away at his home on Sunday, May 31, 2009, following a period of declining health.
Born in Bowerston on December 22, 1921, Gene was a son of the late Forest Niles and Annabelle (Timmerman) Warner.
Gene was a lifelong resident of Bowerston, having been a graduate of Bowerston High School in the class of 1940 and a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bowerston.
A veteran of World War II, Gene served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1944. Upon returning home from the service, Gene worked for the former Scio Pottery for a short time before beginning his career as a draftsman with the Nolan Co. in Bowerston. He retired from the Nolan Co. in 1987 after forty years of employment.
Gene served his community on the Conotton Valley School Board for a number of years in the late 60’s and early 70’s. He was also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons for nearly sixty years. In his younger years, Gene enjoyed playing golf and fishing, especially ice fishing.
On June 23, 1946, he married the former Mary Margaret Chew with whom he has enjoyed nearly sixty-three years of marriage. His other surviving family includes three children, Gene Warner of Bowerston, Sondra Ring of Bowerston, and Bob Warner and his wife, Sherry, of Colfax, N.C.; six grandchildren, Colin Ring of Bolivar, Keira Beckley and her husband, Todd, of Richlands, N.C., and Kelly, Sarah, Abby and Erin Warner of Colfax; a great grandson, Cole Beckley, another great grandchild expected; a brother, Marion Warner of California; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and Myrl Warner, and his son-in-law, Gilbert Ring.
Services for Gene, officiated by Rev. John Johnson, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Conotton Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Those wishing to honor Gene’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Trinity United Methodist Church in Bowerston.
