Judith K. Oakley

Judith Kay Oakley, lovingly known as “Memaw” by all her family and friends, passed away at home on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at the age of 84, after a bravely fought battle with cancer. Born July 25, 1941 in Bridgewater, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Rudolph David and Mildred Teresa (Garber) Gladwell.

Mrs. Oakley had resided in the Bowerston, Ohio area with her daughter for the past six years, having previously lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana after spending her youth in Virginia. Throughout most of her life, her favorite pastime was bowling – spending countless hours with her friends in her many bowling leagues and participating in tournaments across the country. In her later years, her greatest joy came from attending the sporting events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, of whom she was very proud. She also loved soaking up the sunshine on nice days, especially when she was out boating with her daughter and son-in-law.

She was the devoted wife of Edward “Fletcher” Oakley with whom she had shared many years of loving marriage until his passing 11 years ago. Together, they raised two children who survive them, Jeff (Charlotte) Oakley of Louisiana and Renee (Jerry) Myers with whom she had resided. They are also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memaw will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker who had dedicated her life to her family. Her surviving family is completed by her sister, Libby Gladwell Cash; nephew, Ricky; and niece, Dawn.

In keeping with her wishes, Mrs. Oakley has been cremated. Pastor Brock Caldwell will officiate her memorial service at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison, Ohio. Her family will receive callers from noon until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, prior to the service. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to their favorite charity.
