Juanita M. Hanson-Heck, 87, of Newcomerstown, O., formerly of Gnadenhutten, O., died Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Aultman Hospital in Canton, O.

Born January 28, 1922 in Mountain, W.Va. (the former Mole Hill, W. Va.), she was a daughter of the late Martin Luther and Myrtle Mae (Forester) Jones.

After growing up in West Virginia, where she was a graduate of Pennsboro High School in 1940, Juanita moved to Gnadenhutten where she made her home for most of her life and had been a longtime member of Gnadenhutten United Methodist Church. Most recently, she had been a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Newcomerstown.

On December 5, 1943, she was married to Alvin A. Hanson with whom she enjoyed nearly thirty-six years of marriage until his passing on November 1, 1979. They are survived by two children, David Hanson and his companion, Linda Pinchek) of Dennison and Mrs. Jayne Shaw and her husband, Robert, of Newcomerstown; five grandchildren: Carrie Stewart Johnson and her husband, Larry, of Mogadore, Richard Baker and his wife, Karen, of Gnadenhutten, Jennifer Steed and her companion, Rob Hand, of Corpus Christi, Tx., Melissa Menges and her husband, Rick, of Sugarcreek, and Tosten Hanson of Uhrichsville; and five great grandchildren; Shayne Stewart, and Emily and Erika Johnson of Mogadore, and Hunter and Elena Baker of Gnadenhutten.

Juanita was preceded in death on January 30, 2003 by her second husband, Dwight Raymond Heck to whom she was wed on June 1, 1984. She is survived by her stepchildren: Robert Heck and his wife, Phyllis, of Denver, Co. and Ray Heck and his wife, Patti, of Louisville, Ky.; three step grandchildren: Rob and Timothy Heck of Denver and Jennifer Heck of Louisville; and several step great grandchildren.

One of thirteen siblings, she is survived by two brothers: Howard L. Jones and his wife, Eleanor, of Baltimore, Md. and Lester Jones and his wife, Norma, of Duncannon, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by six brothers: James, Paul, Lionel, Clarence, Wayne and Chester; and four sisters: Allean Spencer who had resided in Gnadenhutten, Melissa, Arrahwanna, and Bessie.

Juanita was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who loved caring for her family and home. She is fondly remembered for her meticulous attention to detail in all of her domestic duties.

Services, officiated by Rev. Russel Ham, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 31, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from noon to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Christ United Methodist Church, 648 Oak Street, Newcomerstown, OH 43832.
