Josephine M. Ogden

May 26, 1926 — August 6, 2010

Josephine M. Ogden, 84, of Uhrichsville, O., died peacefully at Union Hospital in Dover, O. on Friday, August 6, 2010 after a short illness.

Born May 29, 1926 in Dennison, O., she was a daughter of the late Harold Wells and Glenna (Moore) Wells Peoples.

Josephine was a graduate of Dennison High School in the class of 1944 before furthering her education in Gary, Ind. at St. Mary Mercy Hospital where she earned her nursing certificate as part of the Women’s Army Corps. Throughout her life, nursing was an integral part of her very being, and she loved the work that she did through both the Twin City Hospital where she continued to work until the late 90’s, as well as in her husband’s private practice.

On April 20, 1968, Josephine married Thomas E. Ogden, M.D. with whom she enjoyed nearly thirty years of marriage until his passing on March 4, 1998. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Harold E. Wells who died in the service of his country in the South Pacific during World War II, and by her former spouse, Charles R. “Jiggs” Deems.

Josephine’s surviving family includes her two daughters, Hallie G. (Steve Clarke) Mason of New Philadelphia and Sally (Denny) Deems-Mogyordy of Sheffield Lake, O.; and a special cousin, Irene Poe. She will also be sadly missed by her extended family members including her longtime dear friend, Gay Deems-Ries and Gay’s family whom Josephine loved like her own children, John (Elaine) Deems, Zack (Maury) Deems, Molly (Karl) Milam; and grandchildren, Sydney, Natalie, John, Anna, Lily, Gracie, and Garrett.

Josephine loved spending time with her family and friends, engaging in lively discussions and sparring good-naturedly over political topics. As an avid reader and crossword puzzle enthusiast, she was a sharp partner for conversation. She was also a devoted pet owner who cared for her dog and cats lovingly.

In keeping with Josephine’s wishes, she has been cremated without a public visitation, and a private family service has been held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to be given to the Cats N’ Us Shelter, P.O. Box 832, New Philadelphia, OH 44663 and the Tuscarawas County Dog Pound, 1751 Tech Park Dr. N.E., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
