Josephine M. Cahaney, 88, of Dennison, O., formerly of Dover, O., passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Beacon Pointe Rehabilitation Center in Uhrichsville, following a period of declining health.

Born October 3, 1921 in Uhrichsville, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Andrew and Emma Letticia (Alexander) Andreatta.

Josephine was a graduate of Uhrichsville High School in the class of 1939 before attending Kent State University. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in New Philadelphia and a former member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. She had worked for Harcatus for a number of years, as well as having been a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. In her spare time, she loved to golf and enjoyed crocheting and working puzzles.

A resident of the Twin City area for much of her life, Josephine served her community on the Dennison Village Council from 1974 to 1977. She was a life member of the Uhrichsville Eagles Aerie #2264 Ladies’ Auxiliary, the Dennison V.F.W. Post #9338 Ladies’ Auxiliary, the New Philadelphia Moose Lodge # 290 Ladies’ Auxiliary and the Senior Citizens of Sacred Heart.

Josephine was the loving wife of J. Byron Cahaney to whom she was wed on May 22, 1945. He preceded her in death on September 9, 1973. They are survived by two daughters, Mrs. George (Catherine) Tuttle of Normal, Ill. and Mary Jo Birker of Uhrichsville; four sons, John J. Cahaney and his wife, Patricia, of Frederick, Md., James M. Cahaney of Cleveland, O., Patrick D. Cahaney and his wife, Wanda, of Dennison, and Thomas B. Cahaney and his wife, Carole, of New Philadelphia; ten grandchildren, Corrie, John, Sean, Scott, Shelli, Dan, Jillian, Bryan, Charlotte and Ashley; two great granddaughters, Ella Grace and Luciana; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, as the last of her generation, Josephine was preceded in death by three brothers, Floyd, Severino and Louis Andreatta, and three sisters, Clara A. Swinderman, Lena Boggiani and Alma Mohn.

Services for Josephine, officiated by Father Anthony Lonzo, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 2, in Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison.

Family and friends are invited to call at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday with a Christian Wake Service held at 6:45 p.m. that evening. Those wishing to honor Josephine’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Immaculate Conception Church’s Cemetery Fund.
