Joseph William Henry, Jr., 80, of Dennison, O., passed away on Monday, November 24, 2008 in Mercy Medical Center at Canton, O., following a period of declining health.
Born on July 26, 1928 in Dennison, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph William Henry, Sr. and D. Irene (Freed) Henry. He was a lifelong resident of Dennison and a graduate of Dennison High School in the class of 1946.
Immediately following his graduation from high school, Joseph enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during the occupation of Japan. Upon his return from the service, Joseph began working in the local clay industry, having worked in Midvale and Mogadore clay plants, as well as Larson Clay in Gnadenhutten until his retirement.
Joseph attended Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Dennison, enjoyed gardening and loved to take care of his dear canine companions, his schnauzer, Maggie, being the most recent.
His surviving family includes his sister, Margaret J. Henry of Cambridge, and a number of cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty June Henry, and several dear friends.
Joseph is also survived by his dear neighbors, Pam and Rick Satterfield, and his longtime friends, Jack Hunter and Shirley Davis, all of whom showed many kindnesses to Joseph over the years which he appreciated very much.
Services for Joseph, officiated by Rev. Bob James, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 28, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. After cemetery services, all attendees are invited to join Joseph’s family at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church for a time of reminiscing and a light meal.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home from noon until 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Those wishing to honor Joseph’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Good Shepherd United Methodist Church.
