Jose John Varela, Sr., 59, of Dennison, formerly a longtime resident of San Antonio, Texas, entered the nearer presence of his Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at the Community Hospice Truman House. Born November 11, 1959 in Yuma, Arizona, he was the son of the late Henry and Ramona (Lorona) Varela.
While living in Texas, Jose was employed by Dean Foods for many years. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs, as well as The Ohio State University Buckeyes. Locally, he attended First Moravian Church of Uhrichsville.
Jose is survived by his sons, Jose (Cristin Erlewine) Varela, Jr. and Antonio Varela; granddaughter, Addison Varela, who was the light of his life; friend and former spouse, Edwina Varela; nephews, Henry Talamantez and Pete (Heather) Talamantez; and a number of extended family members and many friends in the San Antonio area. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and beloved brother-in-law, Pearl and Arturo Talamantez.
A celebration of life, officiated by Pastor Dave Geyer, will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the First Moravian Church of Uhrichsville. Those wishing to honor his memory are encouraged to donate blood – something that he did many times throughout his life – or make a contribution to First Moravian Church of Uhrichsville, in lieu of flowers.
