John David Worley, 75, of Toronto, O., formerly a resident of the Tappan Lake area for thirty-three years, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the home of his daughter in Stonecreek, O. on Sunday, July 11, 2010.
Born February 4, 1935 in Detroit, Mich., he was the son of the late Walter Clyde and Mary B. (Anderson) Worley. Growing up in the Detroit area, he was Catholic by faith and was a graduate of the University of Detroit Jesuit High School before attending John Carroll University. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Michigan.
John was a self-employed general contractor who built housing complexes for communities including Roseville, Crooksville, Woodsfield, Powhattan Point and Uhrichsville. He was the president of Hideaway Hills Farm, General Housing Associates, Inc. and Tri-State Housing, Inc. In his spare time, he was a model train enthusiast and enjoyed watching football.
John’s surviving family includes his wife, Donna L. (Doverspike) Ford-Worley to whom he was married on February 14, 2005; a son, John James Worley and his wife, Becky, of Sherrodsville; three daughters, Cindy Mahaffey and her husband, David, of Stonecreek, Beth Myers and her husband, Chris, of Bexley, O., and Becca Friedlander and her husband, Tim, of Columbus, O.; eight grandchildren, Jessica McConnell, Benjamin Worley and fiancee, Stephanie Tenan, Stephanie Kerwood, Samantha and Michael Mahaffey, and Adam, Dylan and Robert Myers; and four great grandchildren, Isiah and Connor McConnell, Rylan Tenan, and Piper Worley.
He is also survived by a stepson, Jeffrey Ford; a stepdaughter, Lisa Randall and her husband, Jim; a step granddaughter, Jessica Ford; and four nephews, Chris, Kurt, Greg, and Jeff Weinrich.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marcia Weinrich, and has gone to visit his good friend, Gary Johnson, who also preceded him in death.
A private family graveside service will be held in Steubenville’s Union Cemetery. Those wishing to honor John’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Toronto First United Methodist Church.
