John Rogers

January 12, 1940 — July 26, 2011

John Edison Rogers, 71, of Freeport, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Barnesville Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born January 12, 1940 in Belmont Co., near Flushing, Ohio, he was a son of the late Joseph Marion Rogers, Sr. and Ruby Anna (Sommer) Rogers.

A lifelong resident of the Freeport area, John was a graduate of Freeport High School in the class of 1958. He was a retired dairy farmer having worked his family farm with his father and brothers for many years. John loved reading and going out to eat with his family, and in younger years enjoyed fishing. He was a member of Piedmont United Methodist Church.

John’s surviving family includes two sisters, Esther Rogers and Ruth Rogers, both of Freeport; two brothers, Mark Rogers of Freeport and Phillip Rogers and his wife, Betty, of New Philadelphia; two nephews, Phillip Rogers, Jr. and his wife, Billie, of Uhrichsville and Roy Rogers of New Philadelphia; a niece, Rose Law and her husband, Brian, of Dennison; four great nieces; and three great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Marion Rogers, Jr.

Services for John, officiated by Pastor James Willson, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Freeport’s Greenmont Cemetery which overlooks his beloved family farm. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
