John R. "Jack" Lindsey

John Robert “Jack” Lindsey, 86, of Dennison, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Park Village Healthcare Center in Dover after a period of declining health. Born May 18, 1927 in Uhrichsville, he was a son of the late Robert Hicks Lindsey and Theodora “Ted” (Gutensohn) Lindsey.

Jack was a graduate of Uhrichsville High School in 1945 before serving his country in the Army Air Corps at the close of World War II. Upon returning home, he earned his degree in funeral service from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science and continued in his family’s business, the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison, having started working for the firm while still in high school. He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer, and a co-owner of the firm until his retirement in 1993. Jack also served on the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Dennison for many years, was a former member of the Rotary Club where he held a number of offices over the years, and was involved in several professional associations. He was Methodist by faith.

On October 3, 1950, he married the former Helen J. Bloom who survives him at their home. He is also survived by their 4 children, Suzanne (James) Lindsey Henderson of Montgomery, Texas, Stephen Lindsey of Frederick, Maryland, Deborah (Richard) Bonifay of Dennison, and Diane (Martin) Merryman of New Philadephia; 7 grandchildren, Shawn Lindsey, Emily (Henk) DeRee, Christine (Brian) Baughman, Lisa (Dennis) McNeil, Cheryl (fiancé, Justin Sestito) Bonifay, Justin (fiancée, Belinda Gibson) Merryman, and Lindsey Merryman; 6 great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Riley and Ainsley DeRee, Broc and Elle Baughman, and Madison McNeil; and several nieces and nephews.

Services for Jack, officiated by Pastor Scot Caley, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 21, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
