John "Tod" Patterson

John “Tod” Patterson, 91, of New Philadelphia, O., formerly of the Tappan Lake area, died Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at New Dawn Retirement Center.

He was born in the Thornwood Park neighborhood of Dennison, O., a son of the late John R. and Pearl (Baker) Patterson. A graduate of Dennison High in the class of 1942, he grew up on a farm south of Dennison which was the first farm on Rte. 800, currently the Mel Peters farm.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #194 in Dennison, received his 50 year pin in 2014, accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Canton and the Knights of Pythias. He was also a life member of Uhrichsville Elks Lodge #424.

Tod served thirty-nine months in the U.S. Army during World War II, surviving the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from Laurel Valley Oil after thirty-five years of employment as a maintenance man.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jeff Evans; a grandson, Matt Evans; and brothers Earl and Delbert.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Judy Patterson of Wadsworth, O.; his special friend, Jan Shilling of New Philadelphia; a sister, Virginia Phillips of Weirton, W. Va.; grandson Tom Evans of Orlando FL.; granddaughter Courtney Patterson of North Canton, OH.; four great grandchildren: Alex and Meredith Evans; Alexis and Dominique Patterson; and great great granddaughter Meleah Patterson and great great grandson Camdyn Patterson.

In keeping with Tod’s wishes, no public service or visitation is planned. He will be interred at Union Cemetery in Uhrichsville. Memorial donations may be made to the Tappan Lake Volunteer Fire Department.
