John William Magistro, 62, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away suddenly in his home on Tuesday, September 2, 2008. Born October 3, 1945 in Akron, O., he was a son of the late Charles and Julia Elizabeth (Maher) Magistro.
Married on December 2, 1967, he celebrated forty years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sheila Ann (Taylor) Magistro, who survives him. He is also survived by his daughter, Juli Jean (Magistro) Iacono and her husband, Patrick, of Cooper City, Fla.; granddaughters, Alyssa Ann and Jenna Renee Iacono; a brother, Charles E. Magistro and his wife, Sandra, of Sunrise, Fla.; a sister, Nancy A. (Magistro) Garbrandt and her husband, Raymond, of Dennison; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tara Lynn Iacono, and his mother- and father-in-law, Norma Jean Moyer and Robert D. Taylor.
John grew up in the Twin City area and was a graduate of Uhrichsville High School in the class of 1963 before serving his country in the U.S. Navy. He lived in Hollywood, Fla. for thirty-three years, then returned to the home of his youth in 2002. While a resident of Florida, he was a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Miramar where he was a lector for many years.
John was a professional driver and had also worked in a concrete business for a number of years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a past Grand Knight, in addition to being a former member of Uhrichsville Moose Lodge #740. John was well known to his friends and neighbors for his visits when he was out on his daily rounds, riding his scooter which was festooned with a “Too Cool” sign.
Services for John, officiated by Father Martin J. Ralko, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday with a Christian Wake Service held at 7:30 p.m. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to The American Lung Association.
