John L. "J.P." Pounds

September 25, 1930 — December 11, 2008

John L. “J.P.” Pounds, 78, of Dennison, O., passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2008 in Union Hospital at Dover, O., following a period of declining health.

Born September 25, 1930, he was a son of the late John Felix and Pauline (Hicks) Pounds.

John was a resident of Tuscarawas County for much of his life. He worked for Belden Brick Co. in Roanoke for twenty-four years, both before and after he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1971, he began working for Perma-Glas in Dover where he continued until his retirement in 1992.

He is survived by two sons, Steve A. Pounds and his wife, Debbie, of Uhrichsville and Perry L. Pounds and his fiancée, Sharon Edwards, of Dennison; grandchildren, Angus Pounds of Dennison, Nathan Pounds and his fiancée, Marcy Sell, of Bowerston, and Cody Pounds of Uhrichsville; brothers, Frank G. Pounds and his wife, Linda, of Lexington, O., Bob D. Pounds and his wife, Carol, of Dover, and Larry W. Pounds and his wife, Sue, of Troy, O.; sisters, Mrs. Earl (JoAnn) Clouse of Uhrichsville, Mrs. Chester (Bonnie) Dewalt of Galion, O. and Mrs. Robert (Doris) Miller of Tabernash, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Mildred (Stoyanovich) Pounds who had raised him like her own, and two brothers, Virgil R. and Leonard D. Pounds.

John dearly loved his family and the time that he spent with them. His grandchildren, especially, were his pride and joy. One of his favorite things to do was to invite the whole family over for an afternoon to play cards and enjoy his home-cooked chili, vegetable soup or spaghetti.

He was an avid outdoorsman who hunted and fished whenever he got the chance. John also loved to garden and would share his bountiful harvest with his friends and neighbors. He was a member of the Dennison Eagles and had coached Little League in Dennison for a number of years in the 1960’s.

Services for John, officiated by Pastor Scot Caley, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from noon until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the charity of their choice.
