John L. “Jack” Leggett, Jr., 77, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away at Beacon Pointe Rehabilitation Center in Uhrichsville on Thursday, November 3, 2011 following a brief period of declining health. Born August 18, 1934 in Gnadenhutten, Ohio, he was a son of the late John Leo and Grace Frances (Meek) Leggett.
On May 22, 1954, Jack married the former Shirley Ann Huston with whom he enjoyed over fifty-five years of marriage until her passing on October 30, 2009. They are survived by a son, Steve Leggett and his wife, Sonja, of Bowerston; three grandsons, Steve Leggett, Jr. and his wife, Tammy, of Tuscarawas, and Tyson and Trent Leggett of Uhrichsville; and two great grandchildren, Courtney and Brandon Leggett of Tuscarawas. Jack is also survived by two sisters, Opal Maneck of Navarre and Gloria Fowler of Brewster; his brother- and sister-in-law, Paul and Judy Huston of Gilmore; and many nieces and nephews.
Jack was a lifelong resident of the area who had attended school in Uhrichsville and Navarre. He made his career as an oil worker, pumping wells for several area companies. In his spare time, he loved to fish and spent many happy days competing in bass fishing tournaments. Jack also enjoyed scuba diving with his son.
Services for Jack, officiated by Pastor Beth Mansperger, will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Jack will be interred beside his beloved wife at West Union Cemetery near Gilmore. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the charity of their choice.
