John "Jack" Dempster

John William “Jack” Dempster, 84, of Dennison, passed away on April 23, 2016 surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born February 7, 1932 he was the only child of the late John Hamilton and Mary Elizabeth (Page) Dempster.

Jack is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary (Wood); daughter, Teresa (David) Moore; granddaughters, Kendra Moore, Darcie (Sean Rinehart) Moore; great-grandchildren, Sage and Soren Moore Rinehart and son-in-law, Jim Garbrandt; he is preceded in death his parents, and his daughter, Hallie Dempster-Garbrandt with whom he is now reunited.

Jack was blessed with a small but loving family. He married the love of his life, Mary in 1953 and together they raised their girls with discipline and love in equal measure. He had a special relationship with his two granddaughters, taking them on trips every summer to Myrtle Beach and moving them across country and back as life demanded. Jack loved fast cars, airplanes, trains, and could build or fix anything.

Jack was a veteran of the Army, proudly serving his country as Military Police. Later he worked in the family auction business, real estate and at Sears in the tool department, where he could lend his expertise. He made fast friends with anyone, was generous with a smile, and quick to help a friend in need. His laugh was full of joy. Jack was the foundation of his family and will be missed immeasurably.

Services for Jack, officiated by Pastor Doug Mallernee will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at a later date in New Philadelphia’s Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made online to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research to help eradicate the disease, Community Hospice and Mt. Bethel Community Chapel.
