John Robert Hite

John Robert Hite, 63, of Uhrichsville, passed away on Sunday November 11, 2018, at Akron General Hospital. Born June 24, 1955 in Dennison, he was a son of the late Robert Allen and Mabel Louise (Creager) Hite. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Hite.

John was a 1973 graduate of Claymont High School before earning his Bachelor’s degree from Muskingum College in 1977. He was a science teacher, as well as wrestling, football and track coach, at Tuscarawas Valley Jr. High and High School until his retirement in 2012. He had also been a Lake Ranger for MWCD at Tappan Lake for over 25 years and a police officer for the Village of Tuscarawas for a number of years. In his younger years, he played semi-professional football for the Tuscarawas County Vikings. He was an avid builder of scale models since childhood, specializing in WWII aircraft and science fiction space crafts.

On March 19, 1978, John married the former Kathleen D. James who survives him along with their daughters, Mindi (Bryce) Scott, Keri (companion, Ryan Rectanus) Hite, Ashli Hite and Kelci (Brandon) Fouts; grandchildren, Rylan, Skye and Eric; his sister, Kate (Jeff) Zesiger; mother-in-law, Dolores James; and a large extended family including, nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Pastor Shaun Green will officiate his funeral at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 15, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in New Philadelphia. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tusky Valley Trojan Booster Club, 2637 Tuscarawas Valley Rd.
