John Grezlik

January 26, 1926 — March 18, 2009

John Grezlik, 83, of Bowerston, O., passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at his son’s home in Gnadenhutten, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born January 26, 1926 in Amsterdam, O., he was a son of the late Anthony and Anastazya (Seneski) Grezlik.

A lifelong resident of the area, John was a member of Bowerston First United Methodist Church and retired from the Bowerston Shale Plant in 1991 after thirty-nine years of employment.

John left high school to serve his country in the U.S. Army at the close of World War II, having been a part of the Army of Occupation in Germany from 1945 to 1948. He was later awarded his high school diploma from Harrison Central High School in 2002. He was a lifetime member of the Scio American Legion and a lifetime member of the Dover V.F.W. He had previously been a very active member of the former Bowerston American Legion where he had served as a Commander, as well as a member of the color guard and drill team.

His surviving family includes five children, John "Jack" Grezlik and his wife, Jane, of Levittsville, Penny Seed and her husband, Paul, of Centuria, Wisc., Perry Grezlik and his wife, Nancy, of Gnadenhutten, Tamyra McGuire and her husband, Ocie, of Sulphur, La., and Joni Stanton and her husband, Leo, of Wynona, OK; a stepson, Ron Kerr and his wife, Barb, and daughter, Dawn, of Canton; a brother, Frank “Butch” Grezlik and his wife, Shirley, of Fairfield, O.; numerous nieces and nephews; and his loving companion, Marlyn Strasbaugh of Scio.

John was also blessed with thirteen grandchildren, Dori, Kalin, Shannon, October, Laura, Travis, Regina, Alycia, Taylor, Lynette, Brian, Matthew and Derek; and thirteen great grandchildren, Nichole Anne, John William, Taylor, George, Nakayla, Kade, Jenna, Trevor, Lexi, Lily, Mya, Gracie and Kaleb John with twin great grandchildren expected.

On June 1, 1974, John married Norma Jean “Jean” (Kincade) Grezlik who passed away on March 16, 2001. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Nichole "Nikki" Grezlik; three sisters, Katherine “Katie” Lamatrice, Helen Bodziony and Antoinette “Aggie” Babaryk; and three brothers, Tony, Xavier “Zeke” and Stanley Grezlik.

John was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s ball games and other events. He also liked woodworking and refinishing furniture in his spare time.

Services for John, officiated by Rev. John Johnson, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Bowerston’s Longview Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Those wishing to honor John’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, Bowerston First United Methodist Church or the charity of their choice.
