John Eugene Maxwell, Sr.

John Eugene Maxwell, Sr., 70, of Dennison, O., passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at Aultman Hospital in Canton, O., following a lengthy illness.

Born October 12, 1939 in Dennison, he was a son of the late Oscar L. and Alletta Leona “Lettie” (Murray) Maxwell.

John was a lifelong resident of Dennison and a graduate of Dennison High School in the class of 1958. He was a member of Park Christian Church who had served his country in the Army in the early 60’s. He was a member of the Dennison Eagles, the American Italian Club in Dennison, and the Hey Jack Sportsman’s Club. In his younger years, John enjoyed hunting and fishing. John had been a police officer in both Dennison and Newcomerstown and more recently had been a custodian for the Claymont School System.

He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Jane L. (Kinsey) Maxwell; two sons, Jack Maxwell of Dennison and Jim Maxwell and his wife, Tammie, of Uhrichsville; a daughter, Lori Henry and Darren Henry of Dennison; seven grandchildren, Cory and Alivia Maxwell, Kyle and Max Henry, Scott Treherne, Danielle Dickey, and Ashley Thompson; a sister, Jackie Edwards and her husband, Russell, of New Philadelphia; mother and father-in-law Mary Jane and Albert Cora of New Philadelphia; his faithful canine companion Sophie; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilee Maxwell-Day and her husband, Doug, and a brother, Adrian “Sonny” Maxwell.

In keeping with John’s wishes, he has been cremated without a public visitation or service. Those wishing to honor John’s memory with a memorial donation may do so to Shelbi’s Sweets and Treats (a non-profit charity for the benefit of cancer patients), 4001 Cinwood Ave. N.W., Massillon, OH 44646.
