John Michael “Mike” Carrothers, 57, of Dennison, O., passed away unexpectedly in Twin City Hospital at Dennison on Thursday, November 13, 2008.
Born in Dennison on November 9, 1951, he was a son of the late John Donald and Nellie Adella (Griffith) Carrothers.
Mike was a lifelong resident of Dennison and a graduate of Claymont High School in the class of 1969 who also attended Kent State University. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Dennison Knights of Columbus, and had served on the Immaculate Conception Elementary Advisory Board for a number of years. Mike was also active as a coach and avid supporter of the Twin City Little League and Senior League for many years.
Mike was a loyal employee of Giant Eagle in Dover, O. He worked for the same company for thirty-nine years, starting with F. B. Maurer in 1969 and continuing with Stoll’s Foods and Bag-N-Save Foods.
On September 24, 1971, he married the former Donna M. Coventry who survives him. They have two sons, Robert Michael Carrothers and his wife, Rebecca Brooks, of Ada, O. and Mark M. Carrothers and his wife, Tisha, of New Philadelphia. Mike was an avid supporter of Cleveland Indians baseball who loved spending time with his family, including his dear cats, Lucy and Rio. He was well known for the delicious fudge which he made in massive quantities from his mother’s recipe to share with his family, friends and neighbors for all sorts of occasions.
Mike is also survived by two sisters, Pat Huston and her husband, Ed, of New Philadelphia and Judy Clark and her husband, Jim, of Wooster; a brother, Rick LeMonte of Scio; his mother-in-law, Margaret Coventry of Dennison; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Elisabeth LeMonte, Joe and Cheryl Decaminada, Ron and Susan Coventry, Jon Coventry, Tom and Shelly Coventry, Randy and Carol Churilla, Ronna Coventry and Terry Huff, and Bonnie Coventry; numerous nieces and nephews; and a goddaughter who was very dear to him, Brianna Smith.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence E. and Ron LeMonte.
Mike was a very generous man, in life, and his kindness and generosity continue even in his death, as he had always made sure that his family knew that he wished to donate any part of himself which could improve another’s life. By donating his eyes, he is giving the gift of sight to someone else, which would have given him great joy.
Services for Mike, officiated by Father Ed Keck, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 17, in Immaculate Conception Church at Dennison. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation will begin with a Christian Wake Service at 3:00 p.m. and continue until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Those wishing to honor Mike’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Immaculate Conception Elementary.
