Joann Devore

Joann Devore, 72, of Dennison, passed away suddenly at her home on Wednesday, October 15, 2014. Born May 23, 1942 in Parkersburg, WV, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Betsy (Briggs) Maple.

On June 30, 1959, Joann married Lloyd A. “Butch” Devore with whom she enjoyed nearly 48 years of marriage until his passing on May 28, 2007. They are survived by children: Lloyd A. Devore, Jr., Gary (Amy) Devore, Tammy (fiancé, Kirk McAtee) Devore, and Malena (fiancé, Denver Duncan) Ryan; grandchildren: Joey (Erica), Chad (Kim), Samuel, Jeremey (Katrina), Justin, Jareco and Autumn Devore, J.R. Fox, and Andrew and Allison Ryan; many great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joann is also survived by her sister, Betty Ford.

In addition to her parents and husband, Joann was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Joyce Elaine Devore; brothers: Norman, Roy, and Hardy Maple; and sisters: Helen Bowers, Nancy Garbrandt, Mary Allen Ball, and Grace Ross.

A Twin City resident for most of her life, Joann attended Uhrichsville High School before beginning her 30 year career as a nurses’ aide. Over the course of that career, she was employed by the same facility in New Philadelphia as it was Valley Manor, then Morning View and, finally, Schoenbrunn Healthcare.

According to Joann’s wishes, she has been cremated without a public visitation or service. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution may do so to the American Cancer Society for the support of breast cancer research.
