Jo Ann Hunter Knecht, 73, of Dennison, Ohio, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2011 at Union Hospital in Dover, Ohio after a period of declining health. Born November 9, 1937 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Henry Heber and Mary Olive (Turney) Hunter.
A lifelong resident of Dennison, Jo was a graduate of Dennison High School in the class of 1955 and attended Dennison Presbyterian Church until her health prevented her. She was a longtime member of the Dennison Eagles Ladies’ Auxiliary where she had served as a past president. Jo retired from the Tuscarawas County Senior Center where she had been a bookkeeper and had also worked for the Dennison Eagles in the same capacity. In retirement, she offered private daycare in her home. The love that she had for the children she cared for was exceeded only by her love for her own grandchildren who were the light of her life.
Jo is survived by her husband, John “Hubba” Knecht with whom she was looking forward to celebrating thirty-one years of marriage on October 10; three children, Glenn (Mickey) Moore of Dennison, John (Linda) Moore of Newcomerstown, and Amy Moore of Uhrichsville; three stepchildren, Michelle (Jody) May of Dover, Bryan (Barb) Knecht of Columbia, and Dennis (Kathy) Knecht of Magnolia; seventeen grandchildren; one great grandson with another great grandchild expected in October; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Robert Hunter, and a niece, Susan Hunter.
In keeping with Jo’s wishes, she has been cremated without a public visitation. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Interment will be with her parents in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Those wishing to honor Jo’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the American Diabetes Association. Jo’s legacy lives on with her Gift of Sight through eye donation.
