Jimmie Douglas "Doug" Rowe

September 23, 1946 — March 25, 2013

Jimmie Douglas “Doug” Rowe, 66, of Uhrichsville, passed away at his home after a sudden illness on March 25, 2013. Born September 23, 1946 in Dover, he was a son of Ellen Isabell (Dean) Rowe with whom he resided and the late Arnold Douglas Rowe.

Doug served his country in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1969, and fought in the Vietnam War, before returning home to a career at Belden Brick where he was employed for many years. He was a resident of the Twin City area for much of his life with the exception of his time in the army and about 25 years living in Yakima, Washington where he was a warehouseman for local orchard companies. In his spare time, he loved to fish, garden and do woodworking, especially making birdhouses for his family and friends. He was a member of the Dennison Eagles.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Shirley (Hipner) Rowe; three children, Krista (James) Howe of Indiana and Jamie Lynn and Douglas (Jaque) Arnold Rowe of Virginia; a stepson, Darrel (Tracy) Hipner of Virginia; grandchildren, Lyndsay Reidy, Lyndi Rowe, and Justin, Alex and Rachael Hipner; great-grandchildren, Jayden Rivers, Jaylah and Jaydah Archer, and Logan Henry: siblings, Edward “Lee” Rowe, David A. (Dana) Rowe, Ronald D. Rowe, Janet L. Green, Arthur “Billy” (Nancy) Rowe and Mary Lou (Mark) Dunlap; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Louis Tantarelli; sister-in-law, Linda Rowe; and brother-in-law, John Green.

In keeping with Doug’s wishes, he has been cremated without a public visitation. A celebration of his life is planned for a later date.
