Jeanne F. Neighbor

Jeanne F. Neighbor, age 88, a resident of New Dawn Healthcare Center in Dover for the past several years, formerly a resident of Dennison, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 after a period of declining health. Born April 26, 1924 in Newark, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Wilson and Ruth Frances (Holler) Hayes.

Jeanne was a graduate of Dennison High School in the class of 1942 before attending Ohio University, then proudly served her country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On December 19, 1944, Jeanne married W. Stanley “Steamboat” Neighbor with whom she enjoyed nearly forty-five years of marriage until his passing on July 27, 1989. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, John B. Neighbor on November 23, 2012; and two brothers, Lt. Col. John D. Hayes, Retired and Thomas W. Hayes, Jr. Her surviving family includes a daughter, Ruth Ann Beaverson and her husband, Royce, of Bowling Green; a daughter-in-law, Joan Neighbor of Dover; six grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A true advocate for her community, Jeanne served on the Dennison School Board, followed by the Claymont School Board, having been a member of its first board. She belonged to the Order of Eastern Star for many years and enjoyed being an advisor for the Rainbow Girls during that time. She was a longtime member of the Ohio Federation of Business and Professional Women and was active at all levels, having served as a past state president. She was also a member of The Review Club. She enjoyed a forty-four year career as the corporate treasurer for Uhrden.

Services for Jeanne, officiated by Rev. Mark Unrue, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 25, at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery with a military committal service. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
