Jay R. Brown

Jay R. Brown, 55, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, after a period of declining health. Born July 10, 1956 in Dennison, Ohio, he was a son of the late John Park and Irma Bernice (Staley) Brown.

Jay was a local resident throughout his life and was a graduate of Conotton Valley High School. After beginning his lifelong career in coal mining with fifteen years at J & D Mining, he also worked for Oxford Mining and Ohio Coal for a number of years. Most recently, he had been employed by Valley Mining for the past five years.

On September 10, 1977, Jay married the former Priscilla M. Barcus with whom he was looking forward to celebrating thirty-five years of marriage this fall. He is also survived by three children, Jonathan (Lisa) Brown of Dennison, Jason Brown of Bowerston and Jamie Brown of the home; two grandchildren, Colette Brown and Jalee Coen; a brother, Jerry Brown of Uhrichsville; and two nieces, Elise Sickles and Jennifer Brown.

In keeping with Jay’s wishes, he has been cremated without a public visitation. A private, family graveside service is planned at Tunnel Hill Cemetery near Bowerston where he will be interred with his parents. Those wishing to honor Jay’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the American Diabetes Association.
