Janice E. Baker, 86, of Dennison, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at Trinity Hospital Twin City in Dennison after a short illness.
A life resident of Dennison, she was born April 12, 1925, a daughter of the late Arthur Burnie and Gertrude N. (Pickering) Bower. After graduation from Dennison High in 1943, she earned her nursing degree at White Cross School of Nursing in Columbus in 1946. A registered nurse, she worked several years in the maternity ward at Twin City Hospital in Dennison.
She was a member of Park Christian Church in Dennison, where she formerly sang in the choir. In her younger years, she had also been a member of the Twin City Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and the Uhrichsville Elks Ladies’ Auxiliary. She was a member of the White Cross School of Nursing Alumni Association, as well.
On Nov. 27, 1947, she married Robert E. Baker, who died Feb. 6, 1993. They enjoyed making peanut butter and chocolate fudge, which they shared with their family and friends every year at Christmas.
She is survived by four children, Michael (Beth) Baker of Westchester, Karen Quillen of Layton, Utah, Bob (Beth) Baker of Uhrichsville and Jon Baker of Dover; five grandchildren, Colleen, Josh and Kathleen Baker of Westchester, Kim Baker of Uhrichsville and Nick (Melissa) Quillen of Salt Lake City, Utah; one great-granddaughter, Hailey Quillen of Salt Lake City; and a special nephew, Douglas Burnie (Sue) Bower of Canastota, N.Y.
She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ralph E. Quillen; a brother, Robert Bower; and a sister, Bernadine Sechler.
Services for Janice, officiated by Pastor Joe Stephon, will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens in Dover. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 pm on Tuesday, Jan. 31. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
