Janet L. McCauley, 78, of Dover, formerly of Uhrichsville and Gnadenhutten, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Community Hospice in New Philadelphia of stage 4 colon cancer. Born July 4, 1936 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Doyle Marshall and Eleanor (Worstell) Marshall Dodds.
On June 30, 1956, Janet married J. Joseph McCauley with whom she enjoyed nearly 48 years of marriage until his passing on January 31, 2004. They are survived by daughters, Beverly (Joe) Antonelli and Susan McCauley of Dover; grandchildren: Renee Palmatier of Dover, Joshua (Megan) Ebert of Virginia Beach, Va., Jeremy (Ashley) Ebert of Pataskala, Jed Swackhammer of Columbus, Cori (fiancé, Zak Patterson) Antonelli and Kris Antonelli of Dover, and Jacob Swackhammer of San Diego, Ca.; and great-grandchildren: Drew and Reece Palmatier, Landon and Ayla Ebert, and Cali Morris, with another expected in January. Janet is also survived by her sister, Carol Graham; brother, Robert (Peggy) Marshall; sister-in-law, Kay McCauley; and many nieces and nephews.
A lifelong resident of Tuscarawas County, Janet was a 1954 graduate of Uhrichsville High School before earning her Bachelor’s Degree from Kent State University and her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Dayton. She was an elementary teacher for Indian Valley Schools for 15 years until her retirement in the early 90s, after which she was a substitute teacher for many schools throughout the Tuscarawas Valley. She was a member of The College Club, Union Hospital Auxiliary, and the Retired Teachers’ Association, as well as Dover First Moravian Church.
Services, officiated by Rev. John Wallace, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 19, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will be with her beloved husband in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
