Jane Arlene Gardina, 87, of Dennison, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2016, at Schoenbrunn Healthcare in New Philadelphia, after a lengthy illness. Born March 15, 1929 in Dennison, she was the last surviving child of the late Harold Mardis Hillyer, Sr. and Ethel Mae (Fowler) Hillyer.
A lifelong resident of Dennison, Jane was a 1947 graduate of Dennison High School. She was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church and its Altar Society throughout her life, and also enjoyed participating in the Tuscarawas County Democratic Women. For many years, she was a faithful volunteer at the Coffee Bar at Trinity Hospital Twin City in Dennison. Above all else, Jane was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved caring for her family and home.
On September 28, 1963, Jane married Charles A. Gardina with whom she enjoyed nearly 43 years of marriage until his passing on October 31, 2006. They are survived by a son, Michael Gardina; daughter, Lisa Gardina; grandsons, Joshua and Jacob Gardina, Chris and Quin Cummings, and Nick Walters; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Jane was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold M. Hillyer, Jr. and Basil L. Hillyer, Sr.; and sisters, Ruth M. Jason and Doris Pawlak.
Father Tyron Tomson will celebrate the funeral Mass on Monday, June 6, 2016 at 10am in Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison. Visitation will be 2-5pm on Sunday in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison, concluding with a 4:45pm Christian Wake Service. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Church’s Memorial Book Fund.
